Company description

The project SEAP_Alps which was initiated by the EU Alpine Space Programme aims at supporting local authorities in the development and implementation of Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs). The project has developed a guideline for implementation of Action Plans with a special focus on the characteristics of the Alpine Space municipalities: often small or medium sized cities with economies based on tourism that already have been severely affected by climate change. Project partners from eleven Alpine regions have gathered their experience in drafting this methodology. The SEAPs are being implemented and evaluated in more than thirty pilot communities. In parallel, a training platform that can be accessed from the project website supports transfer of knowledge and capacity building at local level. The guidelines for the municipalities go beyond the field of climate protection by including local adaptation policies to climate adaptation, thus providing a valuable contribution to the Alpine Space.

One of the central issues of climate protection and adaptation policies is the refurbishment of public buildings. This task often constitutes a major financial challenge for local governments. Therefore a concept for new public private investment partnerships is being tested within the framework of the SEAP_Alps project. Such approach will make it easier for the municipalities to implement the new EU and national requirements for energy-efficient retrofitting of buildings.

  • Development and evaluation of the SEAP_Alps methodology
  • Capacity building with respect to the SEAP_Alps methodology
  • Supporting local authorities in implementing the SEAP_Alps action plans
