ARPAVDA (Agenzia Regionale per la Protezione dell'Ambiente in Valle d'Aosta) is a public environment protection agency (NUT2 scale). Environmental agencies in Italy are controlled by the Ministry of the Environment and ISPRA, the Italian network of environmental agencies while at European level the reference institution is the European Environment Agency (EEA).

Fields of activity

ARPAVDA mission is environment protection and monitoring related to several themes such as air pollution, soil contamination, environmental noise, waste and material resources management, chemicals and microbiological pollutants analysis and monitoring, ionizing and non-ionizing radiations renewable energies and building standards promotion, Water Resource Integrated Management Climate Change effects assessment.

Activities directly related to AIM 2014 project are linked to water status, pressures and availability monitoring and in particular:
  • Water bodies monitoring network and laboratory analysis;
  • Integrated Water Management support focused on hydropower projects and planning environmental assessment,
  • River monitoring standards definition
  • Decision support systems implementation
  • Technical support to energy saving & planning (HP, geothermal)
  • Cryosphere monitoring focused on Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) distribution modeling and glaciers melt modeling and mass balance
